Thoughts on I am the Messenger

For my choice novel I decided to read I am the Messenger.  I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.  The book is exciting right from the beginning.  It starts off with a bank robbery.  The main character Ed saves the day and stops the robber.  Ed then receives playing cards with clues on them.  He has to figure out each clue and deliver a message.  I think that this book is similar to our classes theme of Coming of Age.  Throughout the book Ed and his friends grow up a lot.  At the start they haven't accomplished anything with their life and it doesn't really look like they will in the near future.  They are nineteen years old and very childish in a way.  They don't have very many responsibilities and the only thing that they really do is play cards.  As the book goes along this all starts to change.  By delivering the messages Ed starts to realize that he can make something of his life.  He also realizes that he really enjoys helping people.  I think that his friends see him changing and that helps them start to change their lives.  By the end of the book they are closer to becoming real adults.

  1. This book sounds really interesting! I love shows like Bones and House where you kind of have to solve mysteries with clues you get along the way -- it's like one big puzzle! I also like how you mentioned how the characters had evolved throughout the book; that also makes the book better because you see some growth in the characters, they're not just flat.

Good post Adam! I'll have to check this book out sometime!

P.S. you guys put on a pretty awesome play! (:

  2. Good blog Adam! I totally agree with you on this blog. I would even say that this book is one of my all time favorites. It also has a lot to do with coming of age so it follows our class theme.

  3. This sounds like it might be a very interesting book. It reminded me of something similar but opposite to the story. In the videogame Heavy Rain there is a killer who had a dad go through tasks to try and save his son to see if he is a worthy father, it’s a kind of twisted connection but it is the one I made all the same. Great game by the way you might want to check it out.

  4. This book sounds like a very interesting read. I might just have to pick it up. I really like that it focuses on teenagers coming of age in an unusual way like recieving cards and names to help. I'd believe that'd be really challenging. Nice post Adam!
